It's a Tiki Christmas

Now that Thanksgiving is over I spent a little time puting up the Cosmic Tiki Lounge Christmas Tree. Over the past several years I've been collecting tiki ornaments for the tree, and I think I now have a fairly nicely decorated tree.

Between now and Christmas I will post pictures of some of the ornaments. Some I purchased and some I made myself. Stop back and check it out.

Hula Girl Beverages

Another weekend with another Oakland layover and another trip to BevMo. This time I found a 4 pack of Hula Girl Cocktails mixed in between all the beers and wine coolers. The bottles and packaging were so cool I had to buy a 4 pack.





I tried the Moonlight Mai Tai. Basically it's just sugar water, food coloring and a little alcohol. I found it to be sickeningly sweet. So I don't recommend it if you want a decent drink. If you buy it, buy it for the cool packaging and not much else. I'm going to find a place to display the bottles.
They do have a pretty good website. http://www.hulagirl.com/ It has a store where they sell everything from beach towels, to t-shirts, to artwork. Some of that stuff might be worth having but don't expect much from their actual product.

Big Kahuna Lost Tiki Solitaire Set

I was just at Borders Book store and I found this solitaire game set. It's a set of 2 solitaire games. A deck of cards for classic solitaire, and a peg board and 33 tiki pegs for a peg solitaire game. It all comes in a cool tiki cigar box. A must have for any home Tiki Bar!
The game is made by Daddy-O Productions. It is priced at $20.99 at Borders. I found it on the internet for less if you want to order it.

Queen of Outer Space

In my quest to meld classic science fiction with tiki, last night I watched the DVD of Queen of Outer Space. It's a classic sci-fi flick from 1958 and stars Zsa Zsa Gabor.

The acting is bad, the plot is silly and the special effects are laughable. All the things required of a great classic sci-fi thriller.

In the movie, 4 humans end up crash landing on Venus, which is populated exclusively by beautiful young women in short skirts. These 4 humans must help Zsa Zsa Gabor and her followers overthrow the evil queen if earth is to be saved.

I must say, I think they spent most of their budget on wardrobe, because the costumes were great. The DVD is available through Netflix.

Seven Tiki Rum

I had an Oakland layover a couple of weeks ago. We have a new layover hotel and this was the first time I stayed there. Our new hotel is next to a Bevmo, which is kind of like the Walmart of liquor stores. I went in and found this bottle of spiced rum.

It's called Seven Tiki Spiced Rum and is made in Fiji.  I'm not a big fan of spiced rum but I tried this last night and it was pretty good.  The spice wasn't overwhelming.  I made a drink called a Short Island Iced Tea.  Here is the recipe.

In a tall glass of ice add the following ingredients:

• 1 1/2 oz Spiced Rum
• 1 1/2 oz Southern Comfort
• A splash of Sour Mix
• Fill the rest of the class with Coke

See if you can find a bottle and give it a try.
