Amelia Earhart Picture

With all the buzz over the movie Amelia going on right now, I thought I'd post this picture of Amelia Earhart with Howard Hughes(on her right) in Hawaii.  I think the gentleman on her left is her husband George Putman.  I've had this picture stored in my computer for so long I can't even remember where I found it.  I'm also not sure what the occasion of the picture was, but I thought that this would be a good time to post it.

More Don Tiki News!

For any of you who will be lucky enough to be in Honolulu on November 6th, I have good news!  They will be playing a free concert on the lawn of the Hawaii State Art Museum from 6:00-9:00 PM.  It is part of First Friday series of events.

I'd love to go, but unfortunatly, I'll be several thousand miles away.  But if you can get there, GO!!!

New Don Tiki Album

I just downloaded the new Don Tiki album, South of the Boudoir, from iTunes.  If you're not familiar with Don Tiki I suggest you check them out.  They are probably the most popular of the modern exotica bands out there.  Here's a sample:

They don't play many live concerts, but, as you can tell from this video, it looks like it would be a real kick to see them live.
This new album continues their tradition of lighthearted music perfect for that tiki party you're going to have.  I haven't played it enough yet for any one song to stick out as the one must play song, but overall it is a good effort.  Go to their website and listen to a sample.  I think you'll like it.

Samoan Tsunami

The death toll from last Tuesdays Tsunami in Samoa and Tonga has reached 177.  We derive so much enjoyment with the culture they created that it is only fitting that we should give them a hand in their time of need.

If you would like to help these island residents out, may I suggest a donation to one of the following charities.  The Salvation Army,or the American Red Cross.  Both organizations do good work after disasters.  From personal experience, after the flood in Grand Forks North Dakota in 1997, I can say that these 2 organizations were by far the most help.

Take a moment and make a donation.  I'm sure they will appreciate a contribution of any amount.

Thanks,
 Jay (Tikikahuna)

Hula Punch Bottle Cap

My wife found this bottle cap at a garage sale this weekend.  She paid 25 cents for it.  On the side it says it was bottled by the Dakota Bottling Company in Mandan North Dakota.  Underneath it is lined with cork, so I'm guessing it is from the 50s or early 60s.  It's in really good shape.  No crease where it was opened by a bottle opener, and only a slight discoloration of the cork underneath.  Pretty good find for a quarter!
